A hydraulic dock leveler is the bridging platform at a loading bay that equalizes the height difference between the dock floor and a truck bed so forklifts can enter and leave the trailer safely. Buyers searching for dock leveler, hydraulic dock leveler, or dock leveler cost usually need three answers: which type (pit hydraulic vs edge-of-dock), what capacity, and what information a factory needs for a clean quotation.
This English buyer guide is written for logistics, manufacturing, food, and cold-chain projects comparing factory-direct China supply with local install. It is not a duplicate of LESHO’s loading dock buyer FAQ or the dock shelter buyer FAQ. Use those for Q&A depth; use this page as a how-to-choose and RFQ checklist.

Question | Prefer hydraulic (pit) dock leveler | Prefer edge-of-dock leveler |
|---|---|---|
Height difference | Larger, frequent variation across trailer types | Small working range only |
Traffic | Heavy, multi-shift forklift duty | Lighter / lower frequency |
Civil works | Pit already planned or acceptable | No pit; mount on dock face |
Budget / schedule | Higher equipment + pit cost; better ergonomics | Lower cost, faster retrofit |
LESHO public examples (confirm on quotation):
Hydraulic dock leveler: site lists a 10-ton heavy-duty hydraulic model; 2020 catalog load tables cover about 6–14 t dynamic for hydraulic levelers and about 6–15 t for telescopic-lip models; telescopic lip lengths about 0.5–1.2 m; platform lengths listed up to about 5 m.
Edge-of-dock (manual) leveler: working range about +100 / −150 mm, capacity about 3,000 kg — see edge manual dock leveler.
If your trailer mix swings more than a few centimetres, or you run continuous forklift traffic, a pit-mounted hydraulic dock leveler is usually the right starting point. If you are retrofitting a shallow face without a pit and height difference is small, evaluate edge-of-dock first.
Capacity must exceed the loaded forklift + load, with margin for dynamic impact when the truck rolls onto the lip. Many warehouses specify about 6–10 tons; heavy industry may need more. LESHO’s publicly listed hydraulic model is 10 tons—treat that as a starting SKU class, then confirm the load table for your exact forklift weight and pallet loads on the proforma.
Practical check:
Heaviest forklift curb weight + heaviest pallet / cage you will drive onto the trailer.
Add impact margin (site engineering or EN 1398 / ANSI MH30.1 practice—ask your local engineer).
Match lip length to how far the trailer bed sits from the dock face (hinged vs telescopic).
Confirm pit dimensions early if the bay is new-build (pit construction is usually local civil work, separate from the FOB equipment price).
Public US market guides show a wide spread between edge-of-dock, mechanical pit, and hydraulic pit equipment, and a further gap once pit work, electrical, and install are included. LESHO does not publish a locked FOB cart price for every hydraulic dock leveler SKU on this page. Current FOB bands by size and capacity are confirmed on quotation—ask sales for a project-specific PI rather than treating any public listing as a locked SKU price.
When you compare dock leveler cost, separate:
Equipment (leveler + lip type + options)
Pit / civil (new pit often quoted locally)
Electrical and controls
Freight, duty, and install
Bay package extras: loading dock shelter, vehicle restraint, bumpers, signal lights
Factory-direct China supply can reduce the equipment line versus a fully installed local package—but you still need a local plan for pit, wiring, and commissioning. Ask LESHO for a free quote with Incoterms spelled out; confirm 1-year warranty and 15–20 day lead time on the proforma (boss-approved commercial line).
Europe: EN 1398 (Loading ramps – Safety requirements) is the common reference for dock levelers (load testing, gradients, toe guards).
United States: ANSI MH30.1 is the usual reference.
LESHO states that compliance documents for EN 1398 / ANSI MH30.1 are available from sales on request. Do not treat a brochure logo as a substitute for the file your project needs. Ask sales for the current certificate scans that match your destination market; do not publish or rely on certificate numbers until those files are attached to the quotation.
If the dock serves a cold room or freezer warehouse:
Specify indoor / outdoor temperatures and whether you need a tight perimeter seal.
Pair the leveler with a suitable dock shelter (mechanical, foam/sponge, or inflatable). Inflatable shelters on LESHO’s product page list about 42 mm PU sandwich boards and ~10 s airbag open/retract—see the shelter product page and shelter FAQ for those figures.
Consider vehicle restraints so trailers cannot creep during loading.
Do not mix freezer door temperature marketing (−35°C to 65°C on LESHO’s freezer high speed door MIC line) with shelter operating ranges; they are different products. State each product’s duty separately in the RFQ.

A hydraulic dock leveler is a pit-mounted (or similarly powered) bridging platform that uses a hydraulic system and a hinged or telescopic lip to match dock height to a truck bed so forklifts can load and unload safely.
Choose hydraulic pit levelers for larger height differences and heavy, frequent traffic. Choose edge-of-dock when the height difference is small, traffic is lighter, and you cannot (or will not) build a pit. LESHO lists a 10-ton hydraulic model and an edge-of-dock manual leveler with about +100/−150 mm range and about 3,000 kg capacity.
Capacity should exceed the loaded forklift plus load, with dynamic margin. Many sites specify about 6–10 tons. Confirm LESHO’s load table for your forklift on the quotation—do not guess from a single catalog headline.
EN 1398 (Europe) and ANSI MH30.1 (US) are common references. Ask LESHO for compliance documents on request for your project file.
Standard commercial line: 1-year warranty and normal lead time 15–20 days after drawing / order confirmation. Confirm both on the proforma invoice. Contact info@leshochina.com or +86-15851675955.
